B.J. Penn shoots down Josh Koscheck?s plans for a fight

Thursday morning, UFC welterweight Josh Koscheck tweeted news on his next possible fight. “#UFC just offered me to fight BJ Penn…I said YES!!!!! Just waiting on him!!!!!! Let’s scrap bra?”

Coming off a loss to Johny Hendricks, a bout with Penn, a former champion at lightweight and welterweight, would certainly pique Koscheck’s interest. Not only would it draw considerable fan interest because of Penn’s vast legions of fans, but it’s the kind of win that could get Koscheck back on track.

Unfortunately for Koscheck, Penn is completely retired and appears to have no interest in returning to the fight life. He responded, ” I know it costs a lot of money to live that lavish lifestyle, big house, fast cars & you need big fights but sorry I’m not coming back anytime soon!”

Perhaps now the MMA world will believe that Penn really retired after losing to Nick Diaz in November. He was also talked about as an opponent with Gilbert Melendez and had to shoot that down, too. Penn had a great MMA career and is now enjoying the retired life in Hawaii. Would you give that up?

Junior dos Santos shares his thoughts on Frank Mir, why he sings, Chael Sonnen and more

UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos stopped by on Thursday to answer your questions. He shared his thoughts on his UFC 146 opponent Frank Mir, Jon Jones, music, Chael Sonnen, and much more.

On where Mir is most dangerous, but not the most dangerous in the UFC:

His biggest threat is if he can use his jiu-jitsu to take me to me to the ground. That’s his big strength. I think he’s good. Maybe among the best ground games in the heavyweight division, but there are plenty others in the other division that are better.

On Mir’s trash talk:

I don’t really like that style. When you prefer talk rather than fighting, it’s not good. I’d rather let my fighting do the talking.

On Saturday’s Strikeforce grand prix fighter Josh Barnett:

He’s very experienced and has a great ground game. As far as whether I want to fight him, it’s not up to me. If the UFC wants to make Josh Barnett my next opponent, then so be it. I think the fight with Daniel Cormier is an exciting matchup and I’m looking forward to it.

On the possibility of fighting UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones:

No, I don’t think so. Jon Jones is a cool guy. Extremely talented. If one day he wants to fight as a heavyweight, then I’m sure he’d have a fight or two before he gets a shot at the title.

Mir’s last win was against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, a good friend of dos Santos. Will that play into this fight psychologically?

I’m a positive person and a confident fighter. What happened between them is just part of the sport. It’s just a natural part of our sport. In my opinion, Big Nog was winning that fight and just made a mistake. Frank Mir took advantage of that as good fighter would do. It won’t impact what I do.

On sticking with “Gonna Fly Now,” a.k.a. the Rocky song, as his walkout song:

For sure I’ll be walking out to the rocky song. It motivates me a lot so I agree with Christian. Back story: Dana White didn’t want me to come out to that song and said it’s overused. I told him ‘Man, my hands shake when I hear that song’. When he heard how powerful it was for me, he told me I could keep it as my walkout song.

On what he thinks of Mir’s chin:

Everybody’s chin is their weak spot. If you land a shot on somebody’s chin, they’re down. Fight over. So yeah, that’s where I’m going to try to hit him. And that’s where I’m going to be hitting him.

On his love of singing:

I don’t need karaoke. I sing a cappella. I like singing. I sing in the shower and all the time. When we’re happy people, music’s just part of our day.

On his prediction for Silva/Sonnen II:

I’ve got to take Anderson. Sonnen-Silva I, Sonnen was caught taking performance-enhancers and Anderson had broken ribs. It wasn’t a fair fight. This time he’ll beat him easily.

Strikeforce presents a reminder of how Josh Barnett and Daniel Cormier got to finals of the grand prix (VIDEO)

Strikeforce’s heavyweight grand prix will end next Saturday as Daniel Cormier faces Josh Barnett in the final. Since the eight-man tournament has been through many twists and turns, here’s a handy-dandy reminder of the wins, losses, and those super-cool lettermen jackets.

Cormier’s spot in the finals is particularly surprising considering he was a replacement for Alistair Overeem, who found his way to the UFC after making it to the semifinals of the grand prix. Will his undefeated streak continue, or will Barnett walk away the champ? Tell us in the comments, on Facebook or on Twitter.

Rihanna’s New Man

riri1_wide.jpg
Rihanna, 24, made no secret of her steamy romance with Oakland Raiders star Darren McFadden on a late-April trip to Honolulu, during which she also promoted her film, Battleship.

In Touch has learned the sexy singer frolicked on a Honolulu beach in a barely there bikini on April 26. ?Rihanna rushed into the ocean, but Darren had to be coaxed,? an onlooker reveals. ?She kept calling his name, and at one point, she discreetly flashed him. That did the trick. He ran into the water, and they started kissing.?

While they?ve only been dating for a few weeks, the couple was spotted holding hands in the lobby of their hotel, The Kahala Hotel & Resort, dancing at a club and cuddling in a lounge chair.

But though it may look as if she?s finally over her abusive ex, Chris Brown, a pal says she?s still in love with him. ?She?s using Darren to make him jealous.?

And unfortunately, it seems to be working. In Touch has learned that Chris is still in contact with Rihanna ? and even sent $3,000 worth of tropical flowers to her suite!

?She was shocked,? shares the pal. And encouraged. Just days later, on May 2, she made a point of wearing a Raiders shirt to a New York strip club ? and tweeted numerous pictures of herself, the pal says, in the hopes that Chris would see.

The Free Ride Is Over For Streaming Video

free signComcast’s plans to do away with its 250 GB data cap and charge users based upon usage marks the end of an era for cable TV providers, and for the online video industry. No longer will users be able to endlessly stream all the content their hearts desire. Not just that, but the fact that usage-based pricing is arriving at the same time that more, higher-quality content is appearing online could have a dampening effect on demand for services like Netflix or Hulu Plus. Comcast, of course, says that its new, usage-based pricing policy is pro-consumer, and to a certain extent it is. The average broadband subscriber — those who only use up about 8 GB or 10 GB of data a month — shouldn’t necessarily pay the same as those whose usage goes above 300 GB in the same period of time. But for those of us who are avid streaming video users, usage-based pricing models could change the overall value proposition of watching video on the Internet.

Kickstarter: Meet CordLite, The Light-Up iPhone Cable For Night Owls

cordliteMy set ritual before going to bed each night is as follows — turn out the lights, plug in my iPhone, take off my glasses and attempt vainly to nod off. Step two in that process can be a bit of a crapshoot in the dark, but the folks at Scrap Pile Labs have recently kicked off a new Kickstarter campaign for a product called the CordLite that just may come in handy. As the name sort of implies, the CordLite is a dock connector cable for iDevices that, well, lights up thanks to a pair of forward-facing LEDs. It’s a very simple concept, but the thoughtful execution is what make this project worth keeping an eye on.

Smash’s Will Chase: My Daughters Aren’t Allowed To Watch My Show!

will1_wide.jpg
Will Chase may spend his time on the set of Smash belting out ballads, but come airtime, he finds himself pressing the fast-forward button.

After some consideration, the actor deemed some of the hit show?s material too mature for his young daughters! ?When you’re shooting it, you’re not thinking about the show,? Will, the proud father of Daisy, 13, and Gracie, 10, tells In Touch. ?Sometimes you watch and you’re not paying attention, and there’s naked people or a bed scene!?

He eventually concluded that the show would have to be edited for his girls, who enjoy watching their superstar dad on the small screen. “They love all the singing,” he says.

While having a father on TV may be fun, Will admits he isn?t a stranger to typical father-daughter dynamics. ?They think I’m cool,” he says. “But I’m a dad, so they think I’m a dork, too.?

Tune into Smash?s season finale tonight, May 14, on NBC at 10 p.m. ET to catch Will and the rest of the cast sift through their theater-world drama.

LACE, CROCHET & SHEER OH MY: Tia Mowry Steps Up Her Sheer Factor In NYC+Rihanna Goes Peek-A-Boo In L.A.

Tia Mowry stepped out in NYC yesterday rocking a sexier look than usual.  Check out her sheer look for her book promo runs, plus Rihanna tapping into her island ways with a crochet & lace pee-a-boo look in L.A….

In a look fit for her home country of Barbados, Rihanna rocked a white peek-a-boo skirt and bandeau top –all of which barely covered her bits of cake–out to dinner at her fave restaurant Giorgio Baldi in L.A.  Maybe a pre-celebration for today’s release of her movie Battleship

And speaking of that, the film’s director Peter Berg recently commented to Entertainment Weekly that it was Rihanna’s interview in the wake of the Chris Brown incident that won him over:

I’d obviously seen [Rihanna’s] videos and was a fan of hers. The videos were really sexy and obviously, you know, very entertaining to say the least. But what first caught my eye about Rihanna was an interview she did with Diane Sawyer after the Chris Brown incident, where she was very articulate, very poised, obviously a smart girl who talked about a very traumatic experience. That was a legitimate, violent, real experience that would traumatize anyone. I thought she handled herself very well. I was intrigued. That was the first time I really remember Rihanna kind of coming on my radar, someone that was more than just kind of a sexy girl that sang hip-hop songs.

All white accentuated her new tan nicely as she hit the streets with her bestie Melissa.

Next stop last night was…of course…the club.

Elsewhere in NYC yesterday, new mom Tia Mowry showed some gals can have it all:

In a sexy black asymmetrical & sheer skirt paired with an aztec print top and boots, the now former "The Game" star Tia made her promo rounds for her new book Oh, Baby!:

A departure from her usual toned down look–but we kinda like it.  Let’s try different shoes next time though…

?King Mo? Lawal signs one-of-a-kind deal with TNA wrestling and Bellator (VIDEO)

After being released by Strikeforce, former light heavyweight champion Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal has signed with both TNA professional wrestling and Bellator. Both groups have a partnership with Spike, making this deal possible.

“This deal is a dream come true for me,” Lawal said. “Bjorn [Rebney, Bellator CEO] and Dixie [Carter, TNA president] have given me the opportunity to engage in my two great loves, mixed martial arts and professional wrestling, at the same time.  And, to have it all on Spike TV is really Buttercream icing on a big ole cake ? not that whipped cream stuff either!”

He will begin appearing with TNA Impact this summer. When Bellator moves from MTV2 to Spike in 2013, Lawal will return to mixed martial arts.

It’s a perfect fit for Lawal, who has world-class amateur wrestling credentials and enough showmanship to fit in well among the pro wrestling world. His fight entrances often used props and dancers, and he wore a crown and a cape to the cage. Lawal also showed off his pro wrestling chops with Strikeforce heavyweight Daniel Cormier in November of 2009.

This contract is a bright spot for what had been a turbulent 2012 for Lawal. He contracted a life-threatening staph infection after knee surgery. His victory over Lorenz Larkin was overturned by the Nevada Athletic Commission for a positive drug test, and he was suspended from MMA for nine months. After the hearing to appeal his suspension, Lawal called a commissioner a racist [expletive], and was cut from Strikeforce. Though he apologized personally to the commissioner, he was still not invited back to the Zuffa-owned promotion.

He doesn’t see a scenario where he will return to Zuffa through Strikeforce or the UFC:

“I’m not going to wait for nobody. If somebody comes to me with something that is good and a great deal, I’m going to take the best deal. And right now, the Bellator deal is the best deal you can possibly get. With Bellator and Impact Wrestling, that’s the best deal you can possibly get, and I took it.”

How will “King Mo” do as a pro wrestler and fighter? Tell us in the comments, on Facebook or Twitter.

Nate Diaz supports Jim Miller?s nephew after scoring win at UFC on Fox 3

Nate Diaz scored a big win at UFC on Fox 3, submitting Jim Miller in the second round of the main event. Immediately after the bout, Diaz showed excellent sportsmanship. He pointed to Miller’s shirt and said to the camera, “Buy those shirts! Support the cause!”

Diaz was referring to Miller’s walkout shirt and his nephew. Miller’s infant nephew Danny has polycystic kidney disease, and $10 of every walkout shirt sold will be donated to the Danny Miller Foundation to help him and other children with kidney disease. Several UFC fighters have donated memorabilia to auction off to get Danny closer to a kidney transplant, but the family still needs help.

Diaz knew that, and pushed his opponent’s cause on national, network television. Diaz’s last time on national television involved a post-fight melee that was an embarrassment to MMA. This time, he not only showed off his dominance as a fighter, but also his kindness as a man.

Bachelor Alum Michelle Money: ?Emily Is 100% In It To Find Love?

Regarded as one of the most talked about TV personalities in Bachelor history, Michelle Money has often been perceived as a villainess. In an exclusive interview with In Touch, the hair and makeup stylist turned reality star reveals how she stripped away her bad girl persona to empower teenage girls (and gives her advice to best pal Emily Maynard as she begins her dramatic Bachelorette journey!).

?My passion is helping women feel confident,? Michelle, who recently teamed up with Big Brothers Big Sisters to award four underprivileged high school students the ultimate fantasy prom makeover, shares. ?We hear of prom makeover stories, but less about the ones where celebs step in to create the magic themselves… so this was right up my alley.?

While the makeover includes a beauty prep room at NYC?s Roommate Grace hotel, pampering at The Finishing Bar with manicure and pedicure treatments, shoes, accessories, hair and makeup by Michelle, and a dress from K.Borgella’s spring/summer 2011 and 2012 collection, Michelle says she also hopes to provide beauty tips and tricks that will enable the four young women to be more confident in their everyday lives.

?Whenever girls come to my salon and ask to look like a certain celebrity I remind them, ?You don?t want to look like her! You want to look like you!?? she says.

And after feeling misunderstood after contending for Brad Womack?s heart on TV, Michelle also shares her advice on what Emily needs to do to get through the drama.

?You just have to stay true to who you are? Things will be manipulated,? she warns. ?If you worry too much about what other people think it will drive you mad.?

Michelle also tells In Touch that Emily struggled with the decision to be the next Bachelorette.

?At the end of the day, Emily wants to find love,? she shares. ?She wants it for Ricki, for herself? why not take this experience and give it a shot??

The Bachelorette premieres tonight at 9:30 p.m. ET on ABC.

Well, outside of the obvious – people are obsessed, this is a historic event, it’s the biggest tech IPO over, etc., etc. – there’s another reason why all the news outlets are publishing Facebook this and Facebook that today. It’s because everyone else is holding their news for a later date….the result of which has led to a historic event of my own: inbox zero. So this is what it’s like not being a tech blogger?

UFC on Fox 3 ratings dropped off from previous shows

Though Saturday’s UFC card on Fox was the best of the three cards that have aired on the network. Unfortunately, it was also the least-viewed of the three. Saturday’s fights pulled in 2.25 million viewers, less than the four million plus who watched UFC on Fox 1 and 2. The UFC won the key demographic of adults 18-49, but lost badly in overall ratings to CBS’ “48 Hours Mystery.”

There are several reasons for this drop-off in viewers:

– Lack of star power: The main card was not stocked with bankable stars, like in the past two events. There was no belt on the line, no outspoken promoter like Chael Sonnen, no well-known former champ like Rashad Evans. While Josh Koscheck has the reputation of being an MMA bad boy, it wasn’t anywhere near what Sonnen and Davis brought to the last card. The shame is that the performances were great and had nothing to do with the names written on a fight card.

– Mayweather/Cotto: Though the UFC did not go up directly against the marquee boxing match-up of the year, the Floyd Mayweather/Miguel Cotto bout did not help. Much of the week’s pre-fight coverage was devoted to the big boxing event instead of MMA bouts, and contributed to the lack of buzz around the UFC fights.

– No football: Something that hurt the UFC that they had no control over is that there was no football to promote the events. For the UFC’s first two events on Fox, the NFL was in-season and gave considerable promotion to fights. Cain Velasquez appeared on set with the NFL on Fox crew, and ads were run throughout games. Without football and its broad audience and huge ratings, the UFC didn’t have as much of a promotional push to pull in casual fans.

Doctors use Formula One pit crews as safety model

American Medical News reports hospitals in at least a dozen countries are learning how to translate the split-second timing and near-perfect synchronisation of Formula One pit crews to the high-risk handoffs of patients from surgery to recovery and intensive care.

“In Formula One, they have checklists, databases, and they have well-defined processes for doing things, and we don’t really have any of those things in health care.”

R.I.P. Chuck Brown–Godfather Of Go-Go

After a long battle with a list of health issues, the Godfather of Go-Go music, Chuck Brown, died today at age 75.  Details on the sad news inside…

Chuck Brown is synonymous with Washington D.C.’s Go-Go sound as he’s credited as being the creator of the original music using the beat.  The repetitive funky percussion vibe can still be heard in current music like Ameriie‘s "1 Thing," Beyonce‘s "Crazy In Love," and more.

As the heart and soul of the D.C. music scene, North Carolina native and D.C. raised Chuck has been blowing up the charts since the 70′s and his song "Bustin’ Loose."  And in recent years has performed less frequently but ALWAYS blew up any concert where he made an appearance.

Mr. Brown died today at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD, according to his manager, of complications from pneumonia & sepsis.

Sad day for music.  R.I.P. Chuck.

This Won?t End Well: Toyota Connects With Nintendo DS For In-Car Navigation Interface

006For some inexplicable reason, Nintendo and Toyota have teamed up to turn the Nintendo DS into a navigational remote control, thereby allowing drivers (although I hope passengers do most of the fiddling) to set their routes using their game consoles. The service, called Kuruma de DS lets you see map and destination info as well as tour information as you drive through town. The service slightly gamifies the experience by adding a POI saving option.

John Travolta Accuser Hires Gloria Allred

John Doe Number One, whose accusations of sexual assault against John Travolta made major headlines before his case fell apart and he dropped the lawsuit, apparently isn’t throwing in the legal towel  just yet. He’s hired Gloria Allred, according to reports.

“I represent John Doe Number One,” Allred confirmed to People.

“Mr. Doe’s lawsuit was dismissed without prejudice which means that he is still legally entitled to file another lawsuit against John Travolta if he chooses.”

Gloria Allred ImageTravolta Head Shot

“We are in the process of conferring with him regarding the next steps, which he may wish to take. Our client and our firm has no further comment.”

Allred has a long history of taking on sexual misconduct cases against A-list celebs, including those against Tiger Woods and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The John Travolta accuser alleged in a $2 million lawsuit filed May 4 that the actor exposed himself and acted inappropriately while receiving a massage.

His lawyer, Okorie Okorocha, dropped him after Travolta’s lawyer, Marty Singer, offered evidence that suggested Travolta was in New York at the time.

A lawsuit filed by Okorocha on behalf of a second masseur, based in Atlanta an alleging similar (if not more graphic) behavior, remains active.

Singer has vehemently denied the allegations as “false” and “absurd,” adding, “People are going to come forward to get their 15 minutes of fame.”

Rihanna: Another Man Revealed

rihanna.jpg
In Touch can exclusively reveal that Rihanna is turning her attention over to another new man ? New York Knicks star J.R. Smith.

Multiple sources tell the new issue of In Touch, on newsstands now, that the two were spotted getting cozy at Veranda nightclub in NYC on May 6.

?They were very flirty in the club all night and holding hands,? an eyewitness who was at the hotspot tells In Touch. ?She was sitting on his lap and was really into him.?

J.R., 26, made headlines in March when he was fined $25,000 by the NBA after tweeting a photo of a woman?s butt in a thong from his bed.

?He is the team?s most controversial player, so it?s no wonder that Rihanna likes him,? says a source.

Her latest hot hookup comes after two recent disses from ex-boyfriends. First, the 24-year-old singer unfollowed Chris Brown on Twitter after he allegedly took an X-rated shot at her promiscuity in a rap, in which he implied she had slept with everyone in the industry. (Chris, 23, soon deleted her from his account, too.) Drake, 25, was next to trash her, releasing a song called ?No Lie,? in which he boasted of only wanting to sleep with her once.

?I definitely like high-risk guys,? Rihanna has said. ?I don?t like cream puff, corny guys? the nice ones that won?t hurt you. I like the edge. That?s the thrill for me.?

For more on Rihanna?s new man, pick up this week?s issue of In Touch, on newsstands now.

Away from the world of multi-million-pound car development laboratories and drivers whose small change takes care of the Monte Carlo harbour fees, another drama will play out in Singapore this week. The Independent’s David Tremayne joins F1′s unsung heroes.

These are not select millionaires but up to 16 ordinary, yet gifted, guys; team mechanics who have worked their way up the system and often migrate from team to team, are paid real-world wages of between £30,000 and £50,000 a year, are drilled to perfection ? and whose split-second synchronisation brings their teams huge rewards.
